The first woman to reach the finish line was Sophia Velicer, who competes for Taiwan. She finished with a time of 02:51:32.6, and Sophia was also the winner of the 25 km Fossavatn Free Style, which took place on Thursday. Second among the women was Annika Landis from the United States, with a time of 02:55:29.8, and third was Norway's Lea Stabæk Wenaas with a time of 02:55:35.2.

Conditions for the race could hardly have been better: excellent track and wonderful weather, temperatures around 0°C, more or less clear skies, and a light breeze.

Andreas Nygaard, who is now 35 years old, was signed as a professional skier by Team Centric (now Team Ragde Charge) in 2014 after finishing sixth in Vasaloppet, despite stopping on the way to search for his ski googles that he lost (being a poor med student at the time, he really could not afford to lose those googles). After successfully finding the googles, he slowly caught the front group again and finished sixth. As the story goes, this earned him his first pro contract.

Ever since, Andreas Nygaard has been a major force in the world of long-distance skiing, winning the Vasaloppet twice, Birkebeinerrennet five times, Marcialonga once, plus numerous other major races. Three times he has taken home the yellow bib, the overall points competition of Ski Classics, and two times the green bib, the Ski Classics sprint competition.

Earlier this year, the Norwegian sports magazine Kondis featured a long article on Andreas Nygaard, where the journalist described him as someone who has „moved boarders, broken records and redefined a whole sport ... the most successful male skier in the history of Ski Classics“.

We are looking forward to seeing Andreas on the starting line and hope you will be there with him. Registration is still open!

After a relatively snow-light winter at first, snow has come in considerable amounts. The Fossavatnsgangan has never been canceled due to a lack of snow, and it's not looking like that will happen this year either.

The public and partners have responded very well to this, and in total almost 700 GB of material has been collected. As is generally the case with this type of material, recent videos are the heaviest on that scale, but the collection also includes a considerable amount of photographs, the oldest dating back to 1936.

The processing of this material is never complete, but several photographs have already been published. In January, the march's YouTube pages will feature a weekly compilation of marches from the beginning of the century, which were found on VHS and DVD formats.

The march still welcomes any material that people may have in their possession from previous marches, and it doesn't matter what format it is.

First in the women's 50 km was Linda Rós Hannesdóttir from Ísfjordur in 03:26:44.3. Next was Edda Vésteinsdóttir in 03:44:20.3 and in third place was Beth Bernhardt from the United States in 03:46:25.7.

The winner of the men's 25 km walk was Eyþór Freyr Árnason from Ísfjordur, second was Martin Jancus from Slovakia and third was Elías Mar Friðriksson. In the women's category, María Kristín Ólafsdóttir was first, Ingebjørg Kåsen from Norway was second and Kolfinna Íris Rúnarsdóttir was third.

About 460 competitors were registered for the 12.5, 25 and 50 kilometer Fossavatnsgöngur, of which about 270 for the 50 kilometer. It can only be said that the weather played a role in the participants' favor this time, with clear skies, calm weather and temperatures around -3°C.

Since spring had sprung quite quickly the last few days before the hike, the 50 kilometer hike is two 25 kilometer loops. However, there was no room for complaint about the conditions on the trail, as it was mostly hard-packed old snow, which provided a firm and good trail.

In the women's category, Sweden's Karin Björnlinger won by 14 minutes, with María Kristín Ólafsdóttir and María Sif Hlynsdóttir taking second and third place.

68 participants from 14 countries completed the 25 km race in fairly warm and calm weather to begin with. After the spring weather of the last few days, the course was very soft and offered little resistance for skis and poles.
